How is a girl like you still single? I get asked that a lot. So much so that I'm beginning to ask myself that. This leads to other questions like: maybe my standards are too high, am I too judgmental, is there something wrong with me?
I'm all for a little self reflection and personal growth. However, be careful. I mistook my self-doubt for self reflection. It only led to staying with Mr. Wrongs longer than I should and being miserable during that time.
Last week after breaking up with the latest Mr. Wrong(but oh so amazing on paper), I felt happier than I've been in awhile. I came home Friday night after a week of living the single life, relaxing in my condo alone, I realized that I like my life. I make a good living, own my home, have caring family and friends, and lead an active life ( I do what I want when I want). For me to let someone into this life, he has to be worth it. I deserve someone special.
That's going to be my mantra. I deserve someone special. Other fab ladies are saying the same.

Why do you like him?
Last year, I went to visit Sis and Bil. Bil had a friend just back from San Francisco for the weekend so we all met up for brunch. It felt like a setup but impossible because my visit was quite spontaneous and he's only here for the weekend.
Apparently I made an impression with him because he asked Bil for my email and number. He said he realized time is a bit weird since he's in San Fran for the year. Anyway we've been emailing and talking for a few weeks now.
My friends asked me why I like him? I have to admit they have a point. We've only met once and we can't even date with him being so far away. Chemistry? A little. The fact he's a lawyer? A little. Yes call me shallow. I need to be someone I can respect and that's someone who is good at what they do and well respected.
I thought hard about this and realized the biggest point in his favor - Sis and Bil really like him. They seem to really want us together. When I was young I would say I'd never let family get in the way of who I'm with. But these days, it really seem to matter to me. Strangely, I really wanted something simple and uncomplicated for once.

Break from eharmony
My account has is close to it's renewal date and it's time to make a decision. I think I've been half halfheartedly doing this eharmony thing. Putting together my profile here and there when I have the time. Picking the random photos. Sporadically looking at matches and communicating. It's probably a combination of lack of time and lack of motivation.
I think I want to take some time to put together a proper profile with decent photos and then start actually communicating with matches. Considering everything on my plate, I won't get to this for a little while. I see no reason to pay for subscription in the mean time though. It's not the end, just a intermission.

Corn maze in the Dark
There was this guy I've been seeing a couple of times. It always seems like a little bit of a power struggle between us. He likes to change locations I suggest we meet at and the time. If weather makes his choice of date activity kind of miserable, instead of agreeing to do something else less miserable, he insist we go. Being a good sport I went. It wasn't bad because I believe in making the best of everything, but I was still cold and wet for most of the date. And it seems like we are in a competition for who suggests the better date. I know that's a lot to know for 2 dates but there you go. I figure I give him another chance (and to top his last date but suggesting a better one). My suggestion? Flashlight night at the corn maze.
He was pretty excited about that. But of course the whole power struggle starts over the details. Last straw. I decided to organize a girl's night of it instead and we had a blast.
I made hot chocolate with Bailey's. We made a detour to Macdonald for an 'experiment', which I will write about later. We ran into a huge crowd at the maze. Apparently it's a family friendly activity. For the most part of the maze we were actually going deeper into the maze hoping to find a quiet spot rather than trying to get out. But after we did come out we had a good night. We tried calf roping(fake calf), duck race (fake ducks), goat feeding (real goats), and found another maze. This maze was smaller than the main one. As a result we were the only ones in there. Even though it was smaller, the corn was taller, it was really dark, it was so quiet you can hear anything moving amongst the corn (spooky!) and the maze was difficult, exactly what we thought flashlight night should be like.
