France Day One

I'm here! This entry is a couple of days late but here is how my first day in France went.

The flight was fine, although I couldn't sleep. I watched about 9 hours worth of tv/movies until Franfurt arrival around 7am. My new drinks rule means I had many glasses of water instead of the regular orange juice and tomato juice I usually chose, and 2 glasses of wine. I really craved orange juice for breakfast, but I thought I'd look like a lush asking the flight attendant to add a little something, something to my morning orange juice. Worked out well since I saved the calories and sugar of the juice.

The flight from Franfurt to Nice was delayed a little. Part of it was due to the fuel shortage in France (strike remember?) and the air plane had to take on extra fuel for its return trip. They offered all the regular beverages plus beer, wine and champagne. Sure it's 8 something in the morning but I had the champagne, and a cup of tea after. I wasn't the only one, I heard champagne corks pop twice during the refreshment service. Arrived in Nice around 11am.

It's a beautiful warm day Wednesday. My friend met me at the airport with flowers (friends are great :) We drove to her place where she lives in with her husband. I had a shower and settled in a little. From their sun room I get a beatiful view of Cannes and the sea. I will post photos when I find my usb cable. Then we headed to Cannes for a delicious lunch of mussels, scallop, and fries. Wandered around Cannes. Walked on blue carpet (instead of the red for celebrities) where the Cannes film festive was. Sat along the premanade, tanned a little, and envied the people who brought their bathing suit to swim on this warm day.

We headed back to dress for drinks and dinner with some of their local friends for a birthday celebration. We arrived around 7pm for drinks at Antibes (outdoor patio of course since it's a beautiful day). Then 10pm dinner reservation at a French restaurant called Le Brulot. The food (grilled duck medium rare, escargot, petite farcis, mushrooms) was delicious, as was the wine, and the limoncelo shot we did with the birthday boy for desert. My friends' friends were great to hang out with. I even learnt a few words of French, and that you don't shake hands here, it's kiss on both cheeks. I think I got to bed around 2am. Even though I was up for more than 24 hours straight, I didn't crash as I expected. It was a great night's sleep though zzzzzzz.
